Running Experience
Samuel has been running marathons and other shorter distance races for over 20 years, having first completed the 26.2 mile distance in 3:57 at the 1986 San Francisco Marathon. After seeking the help of an experienced running coach, Samuel eventually began improving his marathon times, culminating with a personal best of 2:47 at the California International Marathon in 1995. In an effort to maintain a high level of fitness for training and racing, Samuel currently incorporates cross-training workouts such as weight training, swimming and aqua jogging, cycling, and yoga. Samuel believes that running-specific training combined with cross-training has helped him to not only be consistent as a runner, but greatly decrease the chance of becoming injured. Samuel uses a similar approach with his clients, as he feels that incorporating uniquely different styles of training is useful for both improving fitness and adding variety to the training program.
